(Indianapolis, IN – May 6, 2010) – Students at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School are having a fundraiser to help Retired Marine Sgt Klay South make a difference in the lives of combat-wounded soldiers. Resource Teacher Susan Becker has the children working on a service-learning project that supports our military, while teaching academic skills and supporting the community.

The students are selling the bracelets the week of May 10-14 at their school. They are advertising with posters, writing announcements and sending home letters to parents asking for support. The same week, they are planting their “Honor Garden” at school to honor the military members in our community, with annuals, perennials and garden stones.

Veterans of Valor is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization designed to assist service members who have been severely wounded in combat by providing unique items, services, and programs to meet their specific needs. Founded by a combat-wounded soldier, Klay South, he offers support and friendship and a Veterans of Valor backpack filled with items useful in long hospital stays.
